|Silverton City Year Round Walk
||8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
||5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
On this walk, we will meander through interesting and beautiful Silverton, viewing 20 murals (including Norman Rockwell's "Four Freedoms" murals), then walk to the Oregon Garden, where we can visit a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house. At this point, walkers have the option to walk, or ride on a tram, through the Oregon Garden for an entrance fee (tram ride extra). Returning to town, the walk route passes the Water Tower, a park, through a manmade arch, along Silver Creek, then the library, railroad depot, city hall, a pedestrian covered bridge, antique shops, cemetery and fire station.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activities Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there at about 4 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Silverton or Salem to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Silverton on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:45 a.m. at the registration point, the Safeway Store at 301 Westfield Street, Silverton. Directions to the Safeway Store, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Silverton - Mural City USA". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has links to Volkswalks in Canada and 45 other countries.
