5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated moderately easy.
A shady walk through Oregon State University's arboretum and research forest. The 10 km. walk has a substantial climb which provides, at the top, a wonderful view in almost all directions. Near the start/finish is a beautiful shaded lake.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a Corvallis restaurant to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Corvallis on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:30 a.m. at the registration point, the Chevron Station at 5800 Hwy. 99W, north of Corvallis. Directions to the Chevron Station, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Corvallis - Peavy Arboretum/McDonald Forest". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has a link to Volkswalks in Canada and 39 other countries (click on "About Us" and "IVV Website").
