Description

5 km. (3.1 miles) up to 13 km. (8 miles), rated easy.

Two kilometers of this walk go through the Dorris Ranch, Oregon's first commercial filbert (hazelnut) ranch, still in production and now a living history park. The remainder of the walk is on a beautiful paved path along the Middle Fork of the Willamette River and at the confluence of the Middle Fork and the Coast Fork. This section of river is a gem so close to the urban area. Walkers may walk 6.5 km. to Clearwater Park, then retrace their route to the start, for a total of 13 km., or they may turn around short of Clearwater Park for whatever total distance they desire.

Registration for the walk is at 8 a.m. at Courtsports Athletic Club, 2728 Pheasant Blvd. in Springfield (Harlow Road area). It is then about a three mile drive to Dorris Ranch to start. Following the walk, some of the participants will probably choose a restaurant in Springfield to have lunch together; this is purely optional, of course.

Directions to Courtsports, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Springfield - Dorris Ranch/Middle Fork Trail". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has links to Volkswalks in Canada and 40 other countries.
