Portland - Heartbreaker Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) rated easy OR 12 km. (7.4 miles) rated moderate.
The 5 km. route explores mostly flat areas in eclectic northwest Portland. The 12 km. route uses sidewalks, paths, trails, and about 900 steps (the famous "hidden stairways" of Portland) to traverse the hills and see the large, beautiful older homes overlooking the Willamette River and north Portland.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activities Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 5 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Portland to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Portland on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 10:30 a.m. at the start point, the foyer of Building 2 of the Good Samaritan Hospital at 1040 NW 22nd Avenue in Portland. Or, they may choose to do the walk on their own, starting from the hospital anytime between 9 a.m. and noon.
