Eugene - Roses and History Year Round Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) rated easy, or 10 km. (6.2 miles) rated moderately easy.
This walk begins on a wide paved path along the Willamette River, then crosses over a pedestrian/bike bridge to the other side of the river and to the Owen Rose Garden, with beautiful lawn and planted areas. After passing under the I-105 bridge, the path goes to the historic Sheldon-McMurphy House, then up steps and a moderately steep path to the summit of Skinner Butte. From the Butte there are expansive views of Eugene, Springfield, and the surrounding mountains. The route then descends down the butte to the Campbell Senior Center and along the Willamette River to an innovative children's playground and a replica of the Eugene Skinner Cabin, first structure in Eugene. The route finishes with a pleasant walk along the Willamette, across the pedestrian/bike bridge and back to the start/finish. The 5 km. route bypasses the summit of Skinner Butte,
