Portland - Vanport 70th Anniversary of the Flood Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
Walk on sidewalks through the site of Vanport, a wartime housing area destroyed by Columbia River floods in 1948. The area is now occupied by the Portland Expo Center, Delta Park, the Portland Raceway, and a golf course.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 5 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Portland to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Portland on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 10:30 a.m. at the start point, the Portland Expo Center Exhibit Hall D, 2060 North Marine Drive, Portland. Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting from the Expo Center anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
