Silverton - Year Round Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
This picturesque historic town contains approximately 20 murals, including the Norman Rockwell "Four Freedoms" mural. The route includes most of these murals, a large partially-wooded park, a pedestrian covered bridge over Silver Creek, the old train depot and city hall. On the edge of town, the route goes to The Oregon Garden, which includes a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 9 a.m. and return there about 4:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Silverton or on the way back to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Silverton on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 10:45 a.m. at the start point, the Safeway grocery store at 301 Westfield Street in Silverton. Directions to this Safeway, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Silverton - Mural City USA". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has a link to Volkswalks in Canada and 39 other countries (click on "About Us" and "IVV Website").
