Portland - Christmas Boats Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
This walk is on broad paved paths on both sides of the Willamette River in downtown Portland; the area is adequately lit and quite beautiful at night. Boats of the Willamette River fleet and the Columbia River fleet "parade" up and down the river between downtown Portland and Lake Oswego; they are colorfully decorated. The best time to see the boats is at 4:30 p.m. as they leave the Riverplace Marina and pass under the Tillicum Crossing bridge.
There is no organized Mossback carpool to this walk. Our club president, Sally Ross, at 541-726-7169 or 541-547-3949, may be able to help line up ride shares.
Registration for the walk is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the start point, the Rogue Eastside Pub and Pilot Brewery at 928 SE 9th Street in Portland. Directions to the pub, and further details of the walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 12/21. Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has a link to find Volkswalks in Canada and 39 other countries (click on "About Us" and "IVV Website").
