We'll join members of the Yachats Coastal Gems Volkssport Club for this beautiful walk along the ocean and through the forest to Amanda's Statue, memorializing the rough walks and miserable conditions of native Americans being relocated along the coast. Parts of the 804 Trail and the Pacific Coast Trail are incorporated in this year round walk.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 7 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant along the coast to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Yachats on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9 a.m. at the start point, the Overleaf Lodge at 280 Overleaf Lane (off Hwy. 101 at the north edge of Yachats}. Explicit directions to the Overleaf, along with further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Yachats - Amanda's Statue". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. That website also has links to Volkssport events in Canada and overseas.
