5 km. (3.1 miles), or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
Today's hosted walk consists of two 5 km. loops (do one or both). They are on paved paths of the Rock Creek Regional Trail System going though greenway areas and including Bethany Lake, wetlands, and meadows. Pleasant residential neighborhoods are also on the routes.
The walk's sponsor, the Cedar Milers Volkswalk Club, is collecting teddy bears to donate to the Sheriff's Department. These plush toys are given by deputies to young children who are caught in the turmoil of arrest situations. You may choose to join this effort.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activities Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 4:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to the Hillsboro (Rock Creek) area on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers between 10:15 and 10:30 a.m. at the start point, the Subway Restaurant at West Union and 185th Avenue (Portland address). Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting from the Subway anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Directions to this Subway restaurant, and further details about this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 3/19. Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts.
