A newly-created route starts with a pleasant walk through Gerdemann Gardens (no dogs) on natural and paved trails, then goes on a portion of the 804 Trail with beautiful ocean views. The route then includes interesting shops in the downtown of this delightful oceanfront village.
Carpools leave the lobby of the Valley River Inn, 1000 Valley River Way in Eugene, at 7 a.m. and return there about 4 p.m. Carpoolers pay the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant on the coast to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Yachts on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9 a.m. at the start point, the Overleaf Lodge at 280 Overleaf Lodge Lane, on the ocean side of Hwy. 101 just north of Yachats. Explicit directions to the Overleaf, and further details on this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Yachts - Gerdemann Gardens". The same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts.
