Mossbacks Event Calendar

17 September 2016
Title Time Description
Boise Regional Conference walks 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM The Northwest Region of the American Volkssport Association will hold its 2016 Regional Conference in Boise, Idaho, from September 16 to 18. The conference headquarters is at the TownPlace Suites by Marriott, 1455 South Capitol Boulevard, Boise.

Besides workshops and social events, the conference offers three hosted walks and one hosted bike; they can be done in any order over the three days. The walks have both 5 km. (3.1 mile) and 10 km. (6.2 mile) routes; the bike is 25 km. (15 miles). Two of the walks and the bike are rated easy; the remaining walk is rated moderately easy. Each day, one of the walks has a guide, starting at 10 a.m. The walks and bike are open to everyone, whether they register for the conference or not. The start point for the walks and bike is at the TownPlace Suites.

Much information about the walks, the bike, workshops, lodging, registration, etc., can be found at the website: nwregionalconferenceboise2016.weebly.com

To find out about the Mossbacks' arrangements for the conference, contact our president Sally Ross at 541-726-7169.
Check walk new U of O/Rhododendron Gardens YRE route 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM 6 km. (3.7 miles) rated easy, or 11 km. (6.8 miles) rated moderately easy.

For people not attending the Northwest Regional Conference in Boise this weekend, an alternate activity has been planned: check walking the new route for the 2017 University of Oregon/Rhododendron Gardens year round walk. The new route still includes Alton Baker Park, ponds, gardens, Autzen Stadium, and a portion of the U. of O. campus on the shorter walk, plus the Hendricks Park Rhododendron Gardens and more of the campus on the longer route. One long, moderate hill is included on the way to the rhododendron gardens, giving it the higher rating.

Meet at 9 a.m. at the registration point, the lobby of the Valley River Inn at 1000 Valley River Way, Eugene. From there, we'll drive a short distance to get to the start point. Since check walking requires measuring and correcting (if necessary) a walk route, it takes considerably more time than an ordinary Volkswalk. However, if there are enough people to split the longer route into two parts, we should be able to finish between noon and 1 p.m. After that, some of us may decide to go out to lunch together (purely optional, of course).

Directions to the Valley River Inn (from I-5) and further details on this walk can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Eugene - Willamette River/UofO/Rhododendron Garden". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on on "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts.
