5 km. (3.1 miles) rated easy, or 10 km. (6.2 miles) rated moderately easy.
This walk is at Honeyman State Park, a very popular area for residents of Lane and surrounding counties. The 5 km. route follows the north shore of Woahink Lake and then goes through the surrounding forest and picnic sites on the east side of Hwy. 101. The 10 km. route continues up and across the Hwy. 101 pedestrian overpass to the rest of the park on the west side of the highway. There, the walk goes to Cleawox Lake (recreational area) and to the pleasant and extensive State Park campground before returning across the highway to the start point. Members of the Yachats Coastal Gems Volkssports Club will join us on the walk.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Florence to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Florence on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:15 a.m. at the registration point, The Sportsman sporting goods store at 249 Hwy. 101 (just north of the Siuslaw River bridge). From there, it is a short drive south to Honeyman State Park.
