5 km. (3.1 miles} or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
These new routes include downtown Cottage Grove, which has been designated an All-American City, and two unique covered bridges: the Chambers Railroad Covered Bridge (recently restored) and the Centennial Pedestrian Covered Bridge (built for the nation's Bicentennial). The downtown has several historic buildings.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 9 a.m. and return there about 1:30 p.m. A small car fee should be paid the driver. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Cottage Grove to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Cottage Grove on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:30 a.m. at the start point, the Middlefield Estates Golf Course Pro Shop, 91 Village Way, Cottage Grove ( east of I-5). Directions to the pro shop, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Year Round Events" bar at the top left of this page and choosing "Cottage Grove Covered Bridges". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. This website also lists Volkswalks in Canada and in over 40 other countries.
