Mossbacks Event Calendar

18 February 2017
Title Time Description
Seabreeze Festival, Ocean Shores, WA 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Six walks, with options from 5 km. (3.1 miles) to 32 km. (19.8 miles), most rated easy.
One bike, 13 km. (8miles), 25 km. (15.5 miles), or 30 km. (18.6 miles), rated easy.

All of these events are available all three days: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of Presidents' Day Weekend. Most of the walks include beach and sand dunes, roads, and residential areas of towns, with views of mountains, ocean, and distant towns. The bike circles the Ocean Shores peninsula on flat roads through neighborhoods and undeveloped areas. The registration point for all events is the Ocean Shores Lions Club at 832 Ocean Shores Blvd. in Ocean Shores, Washington.

Social activities are also planned. For a complete description of all events, go to www.capitolvolkssportclub.org.

Mossback Club members are arranging travel and accommodations for this walking festival informally. Walkers interested in attending may contact our club president, Sally Ross, at 541-726-7169 or 541-547-3949.

Dorris Ranch/Clearwater Park Year Round Walk 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM 13 km. (8 miles) OR LESS, rated easy.

This walk has been arranged for walkers not attending the walking festival in Ocean Shores, Washington, this Presidents' Day weekend. The trail begins at the Dorris Ranch in south Springfield, going through a forested area and out onto the Middle Fork Trail along the Willamette River. The entire trail extends to Clearwater Park southeast of Springfield, a distance of 6.5 km., then returns to Dorris Ranch. There are numerous points along the Middle Fork Trail to turn around to make a shorter walk. The views of the Middle Fork of the Willamette River and of Mount Pisgah, easier now that the leaves are gone, are truly spectacular.

Meet at the Courtsports Athletic Club, 2728 Pheasant Blvd. in Springfield, at 9 a.m. to register. From there, it is about a three mile drive to the start point at Dorris Ranch. The walk should be finished around noon, at which time some of the walkers will probably opt to have lunch together at a Springfield restaurant; this is purely optional, of course.

Directions to Courtsports, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Springfield - Dorris Ranch/Middle Fork Trail". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. This website also lists Volkswalks in Canada and over 40 other countries.
