6 km. (3.7 miles), 10 km. (6.2 miles), or 12 km. (7.4 miles), all rated easy.
The 6 km. "Capitol/Waterways" year round route goes though downtown Salem, along the waterfront with its carousel, over the pedestrian bridge to Polk County, and past the State Capitol. The 10 km. and 12 km. routes continue on through parks and the Willamette University and past historic homes.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 2:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help with car expenses. After the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Salem on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:30 a.m. at the start point, the Salem Hospital at 890 Oak Street SE, Salem. Directions to the hospital, along with further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Salem - Capitol/Waterways". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. This website also lists Volkswalks in Canada and in over 40 other countries.
