This favorite walk of the Mossbacks begins at the village market, then goes through the small village, along the marina, then along the Umpqua River, up to the Umpqua River Lighthouse, then to Marie Lake within the State Park, back to the lighthouse and a whale-viewing platform, down to the river and back to the village. The seaside atmosphere is very refreshing.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 7 a.m. and return there about 5 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant or cafe at the marina to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Winchester Bay on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:30 a.m. at the start point, the Winchester Bay Market at 8th Street and Hwy. 101. Specific directions to the Market, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Winchester Bay - Umpqua County - Umpqua River Lighthouse". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page will also provide links to Volkswalks in Canada and 40 other countries.
