|Mt. Angel Year Round Walk & Oktoberfest
||7:00 AM to 4:30 PM
||5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated moderately easy.
We'll walk through a small old German town when it is bustling with an authentic Oktoberfest. A long, gradual hill leads past the Stations of the Cross to Mt. Angel Abbey, a large complex with chapel, library, accommodation buildings, an interesting cemetery, and beautiful views over surrounding fields and to the Cascade foothills. Downtown, we'll see colorful folk dancers and oompah bands, a glockenspiel playing on the hour, and colorful food and craft booths, as well as two large beer and wine halls, each with their own bands (including one from Munich, Germany).
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 7 a.m. and return there about 4:30 p.m. This will allow extra time to enjoy the Oktoberfest. The carpools will go to the Fest on Friday to avoid the large weekend crowds. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. No special meal arrangements have been made, as most people will probably want to obtain food from the Oktoberfest booths or from the large restaurants nearby.
People going to Mt. Angel on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 8:45 a.m. at the start point, the Mt. Angel Towers, a retirement community at 1 Towers Lane in Mt. Angel. Or, they may do the year round walk anytime they wish by registering in the Volkswalk book at the Towers.

Angel Towers, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Mt.
