We will join members of the Yachats Coastal Gems Volkssport Club on this exhilarating walk. The start point is at the Woahink Lake Day Use Area, and features a nice walk by the lake. The walk then crosses Hwy. 101 by a pedestrian overpass and goes through a forested area to Lake Cleawox, with its sand dunes and WPA-constructed recreation facilities. A paved path halfway around Cleawox Lake leads to the forested Honeyman State Park campground, then back to the pedestrian overpass to Woahink Lake. At this point, an optional 2.7 km. (1.7 mile) revamped path completely around Woahink Lake can be taken; otherwise, walkers return directly to the Day Use Area. Ocean air, coastal sand dunes, beautiful forest and the two fresh water lakes make this walk especially beautiful and interesting.
Walkers should meet and register at 9:45 a.m. at The Sportsman sporting goods store, 249 Hwy. 101 in Florence (just north of the Siuslaw River Bridge), then drive two miles south to the start point. Exact directions to The Sportsman, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Florence - A Walk by Two Lakes". Alternately, the same information on this walk and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has links to Volkswalks in Canada and over 40 other countries.
