Honeyman State Park Year Round Walk
10 km. (6.2 miles), rated easy.
This walk is entirely within Honeyman State Park south of Florence, one of the most popular parks in Oregon. It skirts Woahink Lake, then uses the overpass of Highway 101 to reach the main part of the park. There it goes through a forested area to Cleawox Lake and the WPA-built stone concession building. After a walk along the lake, through the campground, and to the top of a dune (with views of the ocean), the route crosses the highway again by overpass and returns to Woahink Lake. We will be joined on this beautiful walk by members of the Yachats Coastal Gems Volkssport Club.
Carpools will leave the Valley River Inn, 1000 Valley River Way in Eugene, at 8:30 a.m., and return there about 3:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. After the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Florence to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People driving to the park on their own should plan to meet the group at about 9:45 a.m. at the registration point, The Sportsman sporting goods store at 249 Hwy. 101, Florence (just north of the Siuslaw River bridge).
