Eugene Year Round Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) rated easy, or 10 km. (6.2 miles) rated moderately easy.
This walk has a lot of variety! It starts at the Valley River Inn, follows the Willamette River, then crosses the Greenway Bridge to reverse direction along the river to the Owen Rose Garden. After admiring the flowers, walkers go to the historic Shelton-McMurphey House. 10 km. walkers then climb on dirt paths to the top of Skinner Butte, where there are expansive views of Eugene and Springfield (5 km. walkers skip this part). Coming down from the Butte, the walk goes to Campbell Senior Center, then along the Willamette River to a unique children's playground and to a replica of Eugene Skinner's cabin. The walk finishes by crossing the Greenway Bridge and returning to Valley River Inn.
Registration for the walk is at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the Valley River Inn, 1000 Valley River Way in Eugene. The walk will probably finish between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Following this, some of the walkers will probably choose to have lunch together at a restaurant in the Valley River area; this is optional, of course.
