Clearwater Trail Cleanup
13 km. (8 miles), rated easy.
Our quarterly cleanup of the Clearwater Trail provides us the opportunity for a very beautiful walk beside the Middle Fork of the Willamette River, with not much 'work" required. Most of the streamside trees are without leaves, providing us great views of the rushing river. Many of these trees will have enlarging leaf buds, a welcome reminder of new life and an impending spring and summer.
We hope to have enough "workers" so that we can split into two groups, one starting from each end of the trail. For these arrangements, meet at 9 a.m. at the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield. Directions to the start point will be given then. Carpooling will be available, with no carpool fee.
"Workers" need only bring a sturdy pair of gloves and high spirits. The Willamalane Park and Recreation District provides "nippers", trash bags, and buckets. The litter buildup should be light at this time of year, and the "work' finished by noontime.
Restrooms and water are available at both start points. It is advisable to carry water, as well. Following the cleanup, some of the "workers" may choose a restaurant in Springfield to have lunch together; this is purely optional, of course.
