Eugene Roses and History year round walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) rated easy, or 10 km. (6.2 miles) rated moderately easy.
A very popular walk, this year round event starts and finishes using wide paved paths along the Willamette River. Also included are the Owen Rose Gardens, the historic Shelton-McMurphy House, the Campbell Senior Center, the Riverplay children's area, and a replica of Eugene Skinner's cabin, the first structure in this area. On the 10 km. route, a series of steps and a roadway lead to the top of Skinner's Butte, with commanding views over Eugene, Springfield, and the Cascade foothills.
The walk will begin at 9 a.m. from the lobby of Valley River Inn, 1000 Valley River Way in Eugene. Walkers should be finished before noontime. Following the walk, some participants may choose to have lunch together at a restaurant in Valley River Center; this is purely optional, of course.
