Description

5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), rated easy.

Today's walk has two 5 km. loops; do one or both. The first loop explores the Hawthorne and Belmont districts in southeast Portland. The second loop crosses the Willamette River on the Hawthorne Bridge, then follows along the west side of the river to view the Dragon Boat races, the Rose Festival Fun Center, and the Saturday Market before crossing the Burnside Bridge to view the Grand Floral Parade.

Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 5 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. The carpoolers may decide to have lunch together at a restaurant or they may choose just to eat food from vendors at the Rose Festival; in either case, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.

People traveling to this walk on their own may meet the carpoolers between 10 and 10:15 a.m. at the start point, the Great Dragon Brew Pub at 928 SE 9th Avenue in Portland. Or, they may decide to walk on their own, starting from the Brew Pub anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Directions to the Brew Pub, along with further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 6/11. Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts.
