Dorris Ranch/Middle Fork year round walk
13 km. (8 miles) OR LESS, rated easy.
Two kilometers (1.2 miles) of this walk are on natural and gravel paths through the Dorris Ranch, Oregon's first commercial filbert operation; it is now a city historic park. The remainder of the distance is on a new wide paved trail along the Middle Fork of the Willamette River and its confluence with the Coast Fork. Across the river is Mount Pisgah and Buford Park and the area being restored to its natural state by The Nature Conservancy. Walkers may choose whatever distance they wish to walk along this beautiful, serene stretch of river.
Registration for the walk is at 8 a.m. at the Courtsports athletic club at 2728 Pheasant Blvd., just off Harlow Road in Springfield. From there, it is about a 3 mile drive to Dorris Ranch. Finish time for each walker will depend on the distance walked. Following their walk, some participants may decide to have lunch together at a restaurant in Springfield; this is purely optional, of course.
