Westport ferry walk
10 km. (6.2 miles), rated easy.
Westport lies northwest of Portland, along the Columbia River. We will walk on sidewalks and paved roads in the small town of Westport, then board the ferry which takes us to Puget Island, which is actually in Washington (although it's in the middle of the Columbia). The island is partly natural area, partly farms, which we explore on roads. The ferry ($1 each direction) then returns us to Westport to finish out the walk.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 7 a.m. and return there about 5 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant somewhere along the Columbia or in Portland to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Westport on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. at the start point, the USW Local 1097 Hall at 91237 Old Mill Town Road in Westport. Or, they may choose to do the walk on their own, starting anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 12 noon from the Union hall.
Directions to USW Local 1097, and further details on this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 7/30.
