Happy Valley Fall Festival walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) rated easy, or 10 km. (6.2 miles) rated moderate.
Happy Valley is a community a short distance east of I-205, not far from Clackamas Town Center. Both walk routes begin at Happy Valley Park. The 5 km. route goes through the park and residential neighborhoods, then through a wetlands on a boardwalk, past duck ponds and through green spaces. In wet weather, the footing remains stable. The 10 km. route continues through forested areas, then up a 3-block hill to reach areas with breathtaking views, then downhill through nature areas. In wet weather, the footing on the 10 km. route may be unstable in places; hiking shoes are recommended. Be sure to carry water on the 10 km. route.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 7 a.m. and return there about 3:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant along the way to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Happy Valley on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9 a.m. at the start point, the Happy Valley Park at 13770 SE Ridgecrest Road in Happy Valley. Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting from the park anytime between 9 a.m. and noon.
