Albany Historic Year Round Walk
6 km. (3.7 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both easy.
The walk routes are through three historic districts with many well-preserved historic homes (arguably, the most of anywhere in Oregon). The walks also include parks and a boardwalk along the Willamette River. The attractive Amtrak station is included. Many people will want to see the progress on Albany's Carousel and its colorful painted animals.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 9 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Albany to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Albany on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 10 a.m. at the start point, Pop's Branding Iron Restaurant at 901 Pacific Blvd. (Hwy. 99E) in Albany. Directions to the Branding Iron, along with further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Albany - Historic". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The "National Events" website also has links to walks in Canada and 40 other countries.
