Gervais, Oregon, walk
5 km (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
This walk is through a small town north of Salem, with highlights being the old and new high schools, the post office, and two city parks. You can also walk to a historic house that served as a stage stop. Small towns usually have pleasant, quiet residential areas for walking.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant on the way home to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Gervais on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:45 a.m. at the start point, the Gervais City Hall, 524 Fourth Street in Gervais. Or, they may choose to do the walk on their own, starting anytime between 9 a.m. and noon from the City Hall.
