Brooks Peonies, Hostas and More Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
This walk is an annual favorite among Volkswalkers! We have the opportunity to walk through a large field of peonies, visit the showroom there, then walk along the road to the hosta gardens, which also have other plants displayed and for sale. It's a very colorful walk, indeed!
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activities Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably stop at a restaurant in Salem to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Brooks on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:30 a.m. at the start point, the Adelman Peony Garden at 5690 Brooklake Road, with a P.O. of Salem 97305. Or, they may choose to do the walk on their own, starting from the Garden anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
