Although the AVA National Convention meetings, workshops, and social events occur only from June 7 to June 9, the walks, bike, and swim are scheduled for the entire week, Monday through Sunday. One of the walks is in Helena and one in Glacier National Park, a considerable distance from Billings: buses to these walks can be taken if you register and pay by the deadline. All of these walks can be registered for beforehand by going to www.ava.org. Alternately, individual walks can be signed up for at the time at the start tables in the convention hotel, The Red Lion Hotel at 1223 Mullowney Lane in Billings.
There are also many interesting Volkswalks on the way to and from Billings. The most popular Volkswalk in the U.S., drawing thousands of walkers, will be held on the preceding weekend, June 3 and 4, at the Crazy Horse Memorial (mountain carving) south of Rapid City, South Dakota (in the Black Hills). Go to www.ava.org and click on "events" to get details.
For people wanting to attend the AVA Biennial Convention activities on June 7 to 9, registration materials and information are online at www.ava.org. Also, our president, Sally Ross, can provide some information at 541-726-7169. For people wanting to only do the walks or bike or swim, they can simply sign up at the start table in the hotel, the same as for any hosted event. Specific details of the events, and driving directions, can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Events" and following the prompts.
