Molalla Forest Trails Walk
Two 5 km. (3.1 mile) loops, both rated moderately easy. Do one or both.
This walk is about nine miles outside Molalla, within a forest. One loop is on a gravel logging road and around a beaver pond to a viewpoint with a gazebo. The other loop is along the Molalla River within the forest. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended, also walking sticks if you are used to them. Be sure to carry plenty of water!
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 7 a.m. and return there between 5 and 6 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant on the way home to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to this walk on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9 a.m. at the start point in the forest, called the Molalla Corridor. Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting anytime between 9 a.m. and noon from the start point.
The directions to the start point are quite involved. Drivers should copy the directions on the American Volkssport Association event page for this walk. This page can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 8/5. Alternately, this page can be found by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also details thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States and has links to Volkswalks in Canada and 40 other countries.
