Silverton Murals Year Round Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
This year round walk in the beautiful town of Silverton passes nearly 20 murals, including "The Four Freedoms" by Norman Rockwell. It also goes through parks and the covered bridge over Silver Creek. The longer walk goes to the Oregon Garden and the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house there.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. After the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Silverton or Salem to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Silverton on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:30 a.m. at the start point, the Safeway Store at 301 Westfield Street in Silverton. Directions to the Safeway Store, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Silverton - Mural City, USA". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has links to Volkswalks in Canada and over 40 other countries.
