Middle Fork Trail Cleanup
Up to 13 km. (8 miles), rated easy.
How far we walk depends on how many people turn out to help clear litter from this beautiful trail. Usually, we split into two groups, working from both ends so that each group has approximately 6.5 km. (4 miles) to cover. One group starts from Dorris Ranch, the other from Clearwater Park.
From the Dorris Ranch in southwest Springfield, the first 2 km. (1.2 miles) of the walk is in a forested area of the Ranch and the remainder along a wide paved trail following the Middle Fork of the Willamette River. From Clearwater Park in southeast Springfield, the walk to be covered is entirely on the Middle Fork Trail. The entire route is especially beautiful and serene.
We'll meet and get organized at 9 a.m. at the Courtsports Athletic Club at 2728 Pheasant Blvd. in Springfield, then drive about 3 miles to Dorris Ranch, or about 5 miles to Clearwater Park. The only thing that "workers" need to provide is work gloves and a cheerful spirit; the Willamalane Park and Recreation District provides "litter-pickers", pails and trash bags. Following the walk, some of the "workers" may choose a restaurant in Springfield to have lunch together; this is purely optional, of course.
