Brooks - Peonies, Hostas and More Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
The 5 km. walk is along grassy paths through fields of peonies covering 25 acres and containing over 500 varieties, and also through a display garden. The showroom provides peonies and gift items for sale.
The 10 km. route then goes to the Sebright Hosta Garden, which has many varieties of shade plants in lath houses, and again a beautiful display garden.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. After the walk, the carpoolers will probably pick a restaurant in Salem or Albany to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Brooks on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:30 a.m. at the start point, the Adelman Peony Farm, 5700 Brooklane Road, just east of Brooks. Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting from the Farm, although the exact start times have not yet been announced.
