Portland - Rose Festival Parade Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) or 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
This walk consists of two 5 km. loops; do one or both.
Loop 1 takes walkers through the Willamette Riverfront Park from the Hawthorne Bridge past the dragon boat races and the rides and concessions and visiting ships, to the Burnside Bridge. The Burnside Bridge provides a great viewing area for the parade, although an area is kept clear for those wishing only to continue across the bridge.
Loop 2 is in the Belmont/Hawthorne area of southeast Portland, with many restaurants, specialty shops, and historic homes.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 5 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably have lunch together at a restaurant in Portland; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Portland on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 10:15 a.m. at the start point, the Rogue Eastside Pub at 928 SE 9th Avenue in Portland. Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting from the Pub anytime between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Directions to the Pub, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 6/9.
