Portland - Discover Powell Butte Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) rated easy, or 10 km. (6.2 miles) rated moderate.
The 5 km. walk is a loop through grassy meadows in the summit area of Powell Butte, a 10 million-year-old volcano.
The 10 km. walk also includes the perimeter of the Powell Butte Nature Park, with colorful meadows and woods.
Both routes have spectacular views of the major peaks in the Oregon and Washington Cascades.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 5 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. After the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Portland to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Portland on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 10:30 a.m. at the start point, the Greater Grace Church at 3707 SE 162nd Avenue in Portland. Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting from the church anytime between 8 a.m. and noon.
Directions to the church, and further details of the walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 6/16. Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has links to Volkswalks in Canada and over 40 other countries.
