Albany - Carousel and 30th Anniversary Walk
5 km. (3.1 miles) and 10 km. (6.2 miles), both rated easy.
Today's walk follows approximately the same route as the first Volkswalk hosted by the Albany Fitwalkers Volkssport Club in 1988. Historic residential and downtown areas and the Willamette and Calapooya Rivers are highlights. We'll also be introduced to the new Albany Carousel with its hand carved and painted animals.
Carpools leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 2 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Albany to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Albany on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 8:45 a.m. at the start point, the Albany Carousel at 503 West First Street in Albany (park along Water Street or by the bridges). Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting from the Carousel anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Directions to the Carousel, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 6/23. Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has links to Volkswalks in Canada and over 40 other countries.
