Gleneden Beach - Salishan Spit Summer Stroll
5 km. (3.1 miles), 10 km. (6.2 miles), or 15 km. (9.3 miles), all rated easy.
Explore Salishan Spit, with its expensive beach homes, and Gleneden Beach, both giving views of Lincoln City and the Siletz Wetlands. The walk is on city streets, natural trails, and the beach.
Carpools leave the Valley River Inn, 1000 Valley River Way in Eugene (meet in the lobby), at 8 a.m. and return there about 5:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant on the coast to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Gleneden Beach on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 10:30 a.m. at the start point, the Gleneden Beach State Recreation Site on Wesler Road west of Hwy. 101. Or, they may do the walk on their own, starting at the State Recreation Site anytime between 8 a.m. and noon.
Directions to the State Recreation Site, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page and scrolling down to 6/30. Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has links to Volkswalks in Canada and over 40 other foreign countries.
