Salem - Minto- Brown Island Year Round Walk
6 km. (3.7 miles), 10 km. (6.2 miles), or 21 km. (13 miles), all rated easy.
From the Willamette riverfront in downtown Salem, the route crosses the new pedestrian bridge to reach Minto-Brown Island. There, paved and natural paths provide miles of walking opportunities: choose your distance. Interpretive signs along the way provide interesting insights. The 10 and 21 km. routes also pass through part of downtown Salem.
Carpools will leave from the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 8 a.m. and return there about 3 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $5 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will probably choose a restaurant in Salem or Albany to have lunch together; however, lunch arrangements are always optional for each rider/walker.
People traveling to Salem on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 9:15 a.m. at the registration point, the Salem Hospital (information desk), 890 Oak Street in Salem. Directions to the hospital, and further details of this walk, can be found by clicking on the "Other Oregon Events" bar at the top left of this page, then "Year Round Events" and scrolling down to "Salem - Minto-Brown Island Park". Alternately, the same information on this and thousands of other Volkswalks and Volksbikes throughout the United States can be obtained by clicking on the "National Events" bar on this page, then "Events" and following the prompts. The National Events page also has links to Volkswalks in Canada and 39 other countries (click on "About Us", then "IVV Website").
