Silver Falls Year Round Walk
11 km. (6.8 miles) rated moderately easy, plus a 1 km. (.62 mile) option rated easy.
Pass nine gorgeous waterfalls on this beautiful walk through the Salt Creek Canyon. Add one short, easy kilometer to view the tenth waterfall. Bark and natural paths, up and down some big steps, across a bridge, and a beautiful descent and moderately strenuous ascent out of the canyon are features of this Year Round walk, voted one of America's ten best Volkswalks. The trail may be damp in a few areas, so wear sturdy footwear and carry walking sticks if you customarily use them. The start and finish are in the large, grassy day use area, so bring your own lunch or choose from a good selection at the take-out grill in the lodge.
Carpools will leave the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C Street in Springfield, at 7 a.m. and return there about 3:30 p.m. Each rider pays the driver $10 to help cover car expenses. Following the walk, the carpoolers will eat lunch in the day use area (as mentioned above).
People traveling to Silver Falls State Park on their own should plan to meet the carpoolers at about 8:45 a.m. at the registration point, the Safeway grocery store at 301 Westfield Street in Silverton. The Park is 22 miles beyond Silverton. The park day use fee is $5 per car.
